Sts. Constantine and Helen Snuggly Saints
Sts. Constantine and Helen Snuggly Saints
Please note this doll is double-sided and has St Constantine on one side and St. Helen on the other.
St. Helen was born in the 3rd century and was a queen in the Roman Empire who loved God with all her heart. When her son Constantine grew up and became a ruler, he was very successful in his battles and was much loved by the people. On one occasion, his troops were greatly outnumbered and St. Constantine had a vision of a glowing cross with the words “In this sign, conquer.” St. Constantine knew that this was a sign from God. He went into battle and was victorious.
Once St. Constantine became ruler of the Roman Empire, he made Christianity legal after a long time of persecution. St. Helen began to travel around the Holy Land establishing churches. She and a group of people went to find the true cross of Christ. The local Christians directed them to a hill covered with holy basil and this is where they found the Holy Cross. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was built on this site.
We remember this mother and son on celebrations of the Holy Cross and on May 21st. Sts. Constantine and Helen, pray to God for us!
