St Nicholas and St Lucia Peg Dolls

25.00

This set of peg dolls includes St. Nicholas and St. Lucia, both whose feast days are celebrated in the season preceding the Feast of the Nativity. Each doll is 3.5 inches tall, hand painted, and sealed to ensure durability. These peg dolls make excellent gifts for children as they allow children to learn and interact with the saints in a tactile manner. This set also helps families incorporate church seasons into home life by teaching children about the lives of the saints and preparing them for related hymns heard during church services.

St. Nicholas (270 -343), Feast Day: December 6/19

As a young man, St. Nicholas gave away his whole inheritance to serve the needy, sick, and suffering. After being exiled and imprisoned for his faith, he was eventually released and participated in the Council of Nicaea (325). He was known for his generosity to those in need and his love for children.

St. Lucia/Lucy (283–304), Feast Day: December 13

According to legend, she brought food and aid to Christians hiding in the catacombs using a candle-lit wreath on her head to allow her to carry as much food as possible. A number of traditions incorporate symbolic meaning of St. Lucy as the bearer of light in the darkness of winter, She was martyred in Sicily.

Each peg doll has a card with a short biography on it. These peg dolls were painted with love and care by an Orthodox woman in Cincinnati, OH.
